McDonald’s announced that Krispy Kreme doughnuts would soon be available in all its restaurants in the U.S. The doughnut maker’s stock rose by 28 percent after the report. McDonald’s had begun a trial rollout of Krispy Kreme doughnuts in some locations, and its growing success led to a nationwide deal. McDonald’s stock rose by about 0.1 percent.
The recent announcement said the rollout would begin in the second half of 2024, and McDonald’s locations across the US would offer these doughnuts by 2026. Krispy Kreme has said that its doughnuts could be accessed in 7,372 locations in the US by the end of 2023. McDonald’s had more than 13,449 at the end of 2023, and Krispy Kreme will almost double its reach after it is rolled out in McDonald’s locations across the U.S.
The Tuesday announcement also said three versions of Krispy Kreme donuts will be available each morning at McDonald’s restaurants. Customers can buy glazed donuts, chocolate iced with sprinkles, and chocolate iced with a cream filling individually or in a box of six from these locations.
In 2023, McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme began a trial run in McDonald’s locations in two states—Kentucky and Indiana. The rollout was a bigger-than-anticipated success, so the companies strengthened the partnership and made Krispy Kreme doughnuts available throughout the US.
McDonald’s is looking to boost its breakfast offerings, and the new partnership with Krispy Kreme could give it the edge it needs as it competes with chains such as Starbucks and Dunkin’, whose outlets offer doughnuts.
In a Tuesday statement, Krispy Kreme CEO Charlesworth said, “The top request we receive from consumers is, ‘please bring Krispy Kreme to my town.'”
Krispy Kreme offers free donuts on occasion. On St. Patrick’s Day, it gave customers a green-glazed Original Krispy Kreme donut. To mark its deal with McDonald’s, it will provide customers who visit a location between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday with one free glazed donut.
