Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the release of a new version of MetaAI. The assistant can be asked questions across Meta apps and glasses. Meta is the parent of popular global social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp. Meta AI has been integrated into search boxes on these social media platforms.
Meta AI will also appear directly in Facebook’s main feed. It is now available on a standalone website.
In a video, Mark Zuckerberg said that the assistant could answer questions, create animations, and generate ” high-quality” images.
According to the company, Meta announced its Llama 3 foundational open-source model, which is better than other available models. Two models were released on April 18, 2024, in the Meta AI assistant and to outside developers. A larger model will follow in the next few months.
Meta has introduced an 8-billion parameter model and a 70-billion one for outside developers. Both models will be available on all the leading cloud providers.
Meta considers Llama the most intelligent AI assistant in the world, and Zuckerberg wants it to be freely available to people worldwide. It is available in the US and has been rolled out in other countries, such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and others.
Mark Zuckerberg wants the Meta AI assistant to be available to everyone around the world when they use Meta apps. The Meta Family of Apps has almost four billion active users per month globally (3.98 billion), of which Facebook alone has 3.06 monthly average users, according to the site Statista.
Meta has taken the open-source route as it competes with pioneer OpenAI’s ChatGPT and other similar models. It says that its Llama 3 model outperforms other generative AI models currently available. However, the racewinner could go back and forth, and most of the tech companies involved in generative AI are building faster and more efficient models.
