Robert Card, an Army reservist in Maine who killed eighteen people in a mass shooting, is considered armed and dangerous. He is currently being sought by the police. Please call 911 immediately if you spot him.
According to Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck the shootings happened at roughly 7 p.m. ET. Sparetime Recreation, a bowling facility on Mollison Way, and Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant on Lincoln Street were the sites of active gunfire situations, according to Lewiston police.
Eighteen people were killed and thirteen were injured, Gov. Janet Mills reported at a press conference Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, Card is a firearms instructor and was trained by the military. He was recently committed to a mental health facility this past summer. Concerns are raised about how Card was able to still be allowed to carry firearms.
At the Lisbon Falls boat launch on the Androscoggin River, a white SUV connected to Card has been left behind.
Following the discovery of the car, a Wednesday night directive for citizens and business owners to remain indoors and off the streets of the 37,000-person city was expanded to include Lisbon, which is roughly 8 miles away.
“No words can truly or fully measure the grief,” Maine Gov. Janet Mills said at a news conference Thursday. “Our small state of just 1.3 million people has long been known as one of the safest states in the nation,” she said. “This attack strikes at the very heart of who we are and the values we hold dear for this precious place we call home. All Maine people are sharing in the sorrow of the families who lost loved ones last night.”
