Illinois transfer Luke Goode came off the bench to score 13 of his career-high 18 points in the first half Tuesday night as Indiana stopped visiting Sam Houston State 97-71 in Bloomington, Ind.

Washington State transfer Myles Rice led four Hoosiers in double figures with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Malik Reneau stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Mackenzie Mgbako added 13 points.

Indiana (6-2) carved up the Bearkats (4-5) for 61.8 percent shooting and got points from 10 players. The Hoosiers also controlled the glass 37-25 and dominated in the paint 46-32.

Lamar Wilkerson paced four players in double figures for Sam Houston State with 18 points, while Cameron Huefner added 17. Kansas State transfer Dorian Finister contributed 14 points and Brennen Burns hit for 10.

The Bearkats made only 42.6 percent of their shots, needing an 18-of-30 performance in the second half to reach that level. They trailed by 28 points in the final minutes.

Sam Houston State led 9-7 at the 14:09 mark of the first half when Wilkerson connected on a midrange jumper. But the Hoosiers took control after that, rattling off 10 straight points as Reneau asserted himself with a pair of buckets, a foul shot and an assist on a bucket by Rice.

Goode then made his presence known by draining four 3-pointers in a span of less than four minutes, enabling Indiana to boost its lead to 34-12 with six minutes left. Even an 11-2 burst by the Bearkats later in the half didn’t make much impact on the game.

Mgbako sent the Hoosiers to halftime with a 42-25 lead when he scored in transition with 28 seconds left. That capped an opening 20 minutes which saw the home team drill 16 of 25 shots and earn a 22-12 advantage on the boards.
