Louis Vuitton has picked Pharrell Williams a Web3 entrepreneur to be the next men’s creative director

Founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton as Louis Vuitton Malletier, Louis Vuitton (LVMH) is the world’s leading international French luxury fashion houses. The LV monogram appears on the majority of their products, which include luxury trunks, leather goods, shoes, watches, accessories, and sunglasses.

Celebrity Pharrell Williams, an American musician, record producer, and designer and early adopter of  Web3, will succeed Virgil Abloh as Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director, the French luxury fashion house announced on Tuesday.

His first collection will debut during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris during the month of June.
Celebrity Virgil Abloh dismantled “entry barriers” with joy and optimism.

“I am pleased to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton,” said Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, in a statement. “His creative vision beyond fashion will unquestionably lead Louis Vuitton into a new and very exciting era.

Williams’ predecessor, Abloh, who died in November 2021, was the first African American artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear for four years. Abloh was also the founder of the fashion label Off-White, which was acquired by the parent company of Louis Vuitton in 2021.

Pharrell Williams launched Black Ambition in 2020, a non-profit organization that assists Black and Latinx entrepreneurs in the fields of technology, health care, Web3, media, entertainment, and consumer products/services. A new installment of the music festival Something in the Water is scheduled for April in his hometown of Virginia Beach.

 

Williams has previously collaborated with Adidas, Tiffany & Co., Diesel, Moncler, and Chanel, in addition to launching his own skincare line, Humanrace. The Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded him the Fashion Icon Award in 2015, and he has since broken boundaries by embracing gender-neutral clothing and womenswear, appearing in GQ’s 2019 New Masculinity Issue.

LVMH, which owns  Louis Vuitton,  Dior, Sephora, and Tiffany & Co., recently announced a major management reshuffle in which the tycoon’s eldest child, Delphine Arnault, will take over as Dior CEO. She attended the event with her brothers Antoine, Alexandre, Frédéric, and Jean, all of whom work for the family-owned conglomerate.
