FURIA and Sentinels cruised to victories on Wednesday as the League of Legends Americas Cup got underway with the upper-bracket semifinals in Sao Paulo.

FURIA routed Cloud9 2-0 before Sentinels swept Red Canids 2-0, sending the winners to the upper-bracket final on Friday.

The four-team, double-elimination tournament features the second- and third-place finishers from the League Championship Series Lock-In and the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends Cup. The winners of the latter two events qualified for the First Stand Tournament, scheduled for next week in Sao Paulo.

The two matches on Thursday were best-of-three, while the remaining matches, including the grand final on Sunday, will be best-of-five.

FURIA handled Cloud9 in 27 minutes and 36 minutes, both on red. Arthur “Tutsz” Machado led all-Brazilian FURIA with a 12-3-20 kill-death-assist ratio. The United States’ Robert “Blaber” Huang finished at 5-7-7 for Cloud9.

Sentinels downed Red Canids in 33 minutes and 27 minutes, both on blue. South Korea’s Ham “HamBak” Yoo-jin paced Sentinels with a 10-5-18 K-D-A ratio. Argentina’s Lucas “Kaze” Fe wound up at 9-6-6 for Red Canids.

Cloud9 and Red Canids will meet in the lower-bracket semifinal on Thursday, with the winner advancing to oppose the FURIA-Sentinels loser in the lower-bracket final on Saturday.
