LOL News: GAM Esports victorious in opening match of World Championship

GAM Esports recorded a 2-0 sweep of Fukuoka HAWKS gaming in an opening match of the League of Legends World Championship play-in round on Thursday at Berlin, Germany.

GAM Esports posted a 28-minute win on blue and 27-minute victory on red to advance to face Rainbow7 in a qualification match Friday. The winner of that match advances to the Oct. 3-13 Swiss Stage.

GAM Esports was led by Do Duy “Levi” Shyvana and Tran Duy “Kiaya” Sang. Levi posted an 8/1/7 kill-death-assist ratio in the first map and Kiaya contributed 10/2/6 in the second.

Rainbow7 overcame a first-game stumble to notch a 2-1 win over 100 Thieves on Thursday.

Fukuoka HAWKS gaming and 100 Thieves will square off in an elimination match on Saturday.

All play-in matches, which run through Sunday, are best-of-three. Eight teams are competing in a double-elimination event, with the top four reaching the Swiss Stage.
