GAM Esports and Team BDS answered winning their elimination matches by winning their respective decider matches in the first round of the play-in stage of the 2023 League of Legends World Championship.

GAM swept LOUD in a Group A match and BDS did the same to CTBC Flying Oyster in Group B.

GAM kept the momentum going after sweeping Rainbow7 on Friday by brushing aside LOUD. They won in 35 and 37 minutes on red to advance to a Round 2 play-in contest against Round 1 Group B winner Team Whales.

BDS, who dispatched DetonatioN FocusMe on Friday, won in 42 and 29 minutes on red Saturday to move on to a Round 2 play-in clash versus Round 1 Group A winner PSG Talon.

All matches in the play-in rounds are best-of-three.

After the play-in rounds, the $2.225 million world championships advance to the Swiss stage and then the knockout stage. All rounds are being contested in venues in South Korea. The knockout round will culminate with the Nov. 19 grand final at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
