GAM Esports and Team BDS won their respective Round 2 play-in matches of the 2023 League of Legends World Championship on Sunday to advance to the Swiss stage.

GAM recorded a 3-1 victory over Team Whales and Team BDS notched a 3-2 win over PSG Talon.

GAM opened their match with a 27-minute victory on blue before Team Whales answered with a 27-minute win on red. GAM, however, closed out the match with 33- and 28-minute triumphs on blue. GAM’s Dang “Kati” Thanh Phe of Vietnam was named the match’s MVP.

Team BDS overcame a two-map deficit to upend PSG Talon.

PSG Talon started strong by posting a 34-minute win on blue and 28-victory on red before Team BDS responded with a flourish. Team BDS notched a 41-minute win on blue and 27- and 44-minute victories on red to advance.

After the play-in rounds, the $2.225 million world championship advances to the Swiss stage and then the knockout stage. All rounds are being contested in venues in South Korea. The knockout round will culminate with the Nov. 19 grand final at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.
