LOL News: FlyQuest move to upper-bracket semifinals at LCS Summer Split

FlyQuest advanced to the upper-bracket semifinals by defeating NRG in the League Championship Series Summer Split playoffs on Sunday.

With the 3-1 win, FlyQuest will next face Cloud9 on Saturday. Cloud9 begins the playoffs in the semifinals thanks to their 6-1 performance in the Summer Split’s group stage.

NRG dropped down into the lower bracket and will face Dignitas on Thursday. Dignitas was swept by 100 Thieves when the playoffs opened on Saturday.

FlyQuest won their first match in 34 minutes while playing on blue, but NRG tied the match with a 37-minute victory on blue. FlyQuest took control with a win in 30 minutes on blue, and clinched the match in 31 minutes on red.

Song “Quad” Su-hyeong of South Korea led the victory with a kills/deaths/assists mark of 20/5/25. Teammate Fahad “Massu” Abdulmalek of Canada was right behind at 19/3/37. Cristian “Palafox” Palafox of the U.S. carried NRG at 18/14/10.

Eight teams fought for six spots in the League of Legends Summer Split’s double-elimination playoff bracket.

All group-play matches were best-of-three, while the playoff matches are best-of-five. The winner of the tournament will take home $100,000 of the $200,000 prize pool, with the top three teams qualifying for the World Championship.

The playoffs continue Thursday with one match:
