Dignitas squeezed past NRG on Friday in a dramatic first-round lower-bracket matchup at the League Championship Series Summer Split playoffs in Los Angeles.
The winner in each map played on blue. Dignitas prevailed on the first map in 29 minutes, on the third map in 41 minutes and on the fifth map in 49 minutes. NRG pulled level twice, taking the second map in 25 minutes and the fourth map in 39 minutes.
Denmark’s Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen produced an average 4.8/2.2/7.8 kill-death-assist ratio for Dignitas.
Australia’s Victor “FBI” Huang wound up at 6.6/2.6/6.4 for NRG.
With the victory, Dignitas will return to action on Aug. 30 against the lower seed among the two losers in the upper-bracket semifinals.
The upper-bracket semis will be held this weekend. Team Liquid will oppose 100 Thieves on Saturday, and Cloud9 will face off with FlyQuest on Sunday.
All playoff matches in North America’s top League of Legends competition are best-of-five. The winner of the tournament will take home $100,000 of the $200,000 prize pool, with the top three teams qualifying for the World Championship.
