Bronny James watched No. 21 Southern California beat Kansas State in the opening game of the season Monday in Las Vegas, and LeBron James said his son could be back on the court by the end of the month.
LeBron James said “things are going in the right direction” for Bronny, who suffered cardiac arrest during a team workout in July and underwent surgery to repair what the family said was a congenital defect.
“He’s doing rehab,” LeBron James said Monday. “Every week he gets to do more and more and more. We have a big moment at the end of this month to see if we can continue to go forward. If he’s cleared, we’ll be not too long away from him being back on the floor and back with his teammates and practicing, with the notion of being back on the floor and playing in game situations.”
Bronny James was projected as a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft prior to the medical emergency.
A 6-4, 200-pound guard, he was ranked as a top 35 recruit by most major services and considered Oregon and Ohio State among other potential landing spots.
USC coach Andy Enfield said the James family remains supportive and all parties are on the same page regarding Bronny James returning to basketball with medical approval.
