Foothill police officers responded to a number of radio reports on August 9, 2023, at 5:50 p.m., ranging from a hit-and-run car accident to a reckless driver operating a Department of Water and Power (DWP) vehicle in the vicinity of the 10600 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
Assault with a deadly weapon by vehicle was the offense committed when the authorities got on the scene, and they broadcast a description of the vehicle as a white, full-size sport utility vehicle. The vehicle was found by responding officers who had been scanning the area, and a chase started. The suspect entered the 5 Freeway and was later identified as Manuel Ramirez, 28. Ramirez collided with two unrelated automobiles while being pursued. Ramirez didn’t pull over; instead, he drove on and took the Colorado Boulevard exit.
Ramirez was wounded by a gunshot during the chase and sent to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. After being released, Ramirez was later arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, California Penal Code 245(C). His bail was set at $152,000.00.
