At the NBA Draft, LaMelo Ball of Charlotte’s Hornets, along with his brother Lonzo Ball, set history. Unfortunately he set a different type of history in his official NBA debut on Wednesday. In 16 minutes he finished scoreless. Elias Sports said that by doing do he became the first top-3 pick who scored zero points in the past 7 years.
The last player to do so was Otto Porter Jr.. In 2013, Otto Porter Jr. also went scoreless in his NBA debut. There are other top-3 picks who have gone scoreless more than a decade ago, in the last 15 seasons of the game. They are Hasheem Thabeet of team Grizzlies who scored zero in 2009. Greg Olden who debuted in 2008, with the Trailblazers was also scoreless in his first NBA game.
Waited a long time for this day.

On Wednesday, Ball’s final stat line remained zero in 16 minutes on five field goal attempts, three of those coming from three. He also finished the game with three assists, two steals, one rebound, three turnovers and two fouls.
In his preseason debut, Ball also scored zero but he had a few excellent assists and pulled down 10 rebounds. This made his game impactful, although he didn’t score.
