On Thursday, celebrity Lady Gaga confirmed that she will be starring in the sequel of the blockbuster Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. The celebrity multi Grammy award winnng singer and Oscar winner posted a teaser video confirming her role. She had recently acted in the House of Gucci in 2021 and was earlier the lead in the 2019 film A Star Is Born.
The Joker sequel called “Joker: Folie à Deux will be directed by Todd Phillips who had directed the original billion dollar grosser, Warner Bros’ DC picture Joker, in 2019. The sequel is scheduled for a release on the first Friday, in October 2024.
Earlier, news outlets had reported that Joaquin Phoenix was in talks with Warner Bros to reprise his role in the sequel to Joker and that Lady Gaga would join in the star cast of the sequel which is expected to be a future blockbuster for the production house.
The plot of the sequel of Joker has not been revealed. However, director Todd Phillips will come back as the director and is said to have co-written the script of Joker: Folie à Deux with Scott Silver. Lady Gaga is slated to play the role of Harley Quinn, the Arkham Asylum shrink. Earlier, Margot Robbie played the role of the psychologist who falls in love with her patient Arthur Fleck, who is the Joker. Lady Gaga is expected to bring a different twist to the role of Quinn.
In 2020, Joker was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Although it didn’t win this award Joaquin Phoenix won the award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck, who is also known as the Joker. The film won another award for best composition though this wasn’t the only award for Hildur Gudnadottir as the Icelandic musician and composer also won the Golden Globe, the Grammy and the BAFTA for her original composition in the Joker.
Will celebrity Lady Gaga win her first Academy Award for acting and will the celebrity actor, composer, director and others also continue to win Academy Awards and other prestigious ones for the sequel of Joker called Joker: Folie à Deux? This question can only be answered in 2025 as the sequel has a scheduled release date of October 4, 2024.
