Early Monday, a person of interest was arrested in connection with the murder of Ryan Clinkunbroomer. The deputy sheriff of the County of Los Angeles had been fatally shot over the weekend. The ambush killing shocked the nation and the investigation is ongoing.
In an operation by the Sheriff’s office, deputies surrounded a residence and called out everybody at the home, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, who addressed a press conference on Monday morning. Family members came out but one person barricaded himself inside the residence.
Luna added that they tried to de-escalate the situation and to negotiate with the suspect for several hours. Finally chemical agents were deployed by Special Enforcement deputies. The suspect surrendered and was arrested.
Luna also said that they had recovered many firearms from the house. The vehicle of interest that had been seen next to the deputy’s car, at the red light was also recovered from the residence.
Earlier, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released an update about the tragic killing. It stated that at approximately 6.00 p.m., Deputy Clinkunbroomer had been ambushed. He was in full uniform and had been “conducting routine patrol duties.”
Deputy Clinkunbroomer was alone in his vehicle. He stopped in Palmdale, at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Avenue Q. A little later, he was found unconscious in his vehicle by a Good Samaritan who immediately contacted personnel at Palmdale Station.
Although Deputy Clinkunbroomer was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries. Dedicated medical staff made valiant attempts to treat a gunshot wound that he had sustained.
The Sheriff’s Department had actively conducted interviews and mentioned that a vehicle described as a dark grey 2006-2012 Toyota Corolla was a vehicle of interest, before the Monday morning arrest.
Deputy Clinkunbroomer was 30 years old. He had dedicated a major part of his eight-year service to the community in Palmdale.
Sheriff Luna also said, “…he was a son, grandson and newly engaged. He had so much ahead of him.”
