New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett won’t play Sunday night against the visiting Washington Wizards, the team said about three hours before tip-off.
The Knicks did not reveal whether Barrett had COVID-19 or a “non-COVID” illness.
Barrett, 22, had played 71 of the Knicks’ first 78 games of the season, all starts. The 2019 third overall draft pick has averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per contest in 2022-23, and owns career averages of 18.0 points, 5.4 boards and 2.8 assists.
New York already was without Julius Randle due to a sprained left ankle sustained last week.
The Knicks (45-33) can clinch a playoff berth by beating the Wizards. New York is fifth in the Eastern Conference.
