King Charles III unveiled the first portrait of himself after being crowned as Great Britain’s monarch. Although the portrait was commissioned when he was the Prince of Wales, it was completed by the artist after he was crowned, and it remains his first official portrait as King. The portrayal of the king by the artist has received positive responses from web fans.

The official page of the Royal Family posted a series of photos of the unveiling at Buckingham Palace of the portrait of King Charles, painted by renowned artist Jonathan Yeo. The social media account also posted photos of portraits of Queen Camilla when she was the Duchess of Cornwall in 2014 and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburg, in 2008, also painted by Yeo.

The new portrait shows King Charles wearing the uniform of the Welsh Guards. He became the regimental colonel of the Guards in 1975. The painting is expected to hang at Drapers Hall by the end of August. It will be on public display for a month from May 16 till June 14 at the Philip Mould Gallery in London.

Jonathan Yeo is one of the world’s leading portrait artists. He has captured King Charles face with a great degree of likeness and many web fans have commented on this aspect. He has also added a modern touch to the King’s traditional uniform.

Other original touches include a butterfly on the king’s shoulder and it is said that it symbolizes the “metamorphosis” of Charles from Prince to King. King Charles is a champion of the environment and the butterfly also refers to his interest in environmental causes.

King Charles portrait is a vivid red work of art. It measures roughly 8 feet six inches by six feet six inches. It is an interesting portrait that has got positive reactions from web fans as some approve of the modern touch while others like the red background. However, arguably the best authority on Charles, his wife Queen Camilla reportedly told Yeo, “Yes, you’ve got him,” when she is supposedly looked at the painting.
