King Charles III delivers first Christmas message, gets more than 10 million viewers

On Christmas day, at 3 p.m. his Majesty King Charles III delivered his first Christmas address to Great Britain and nations of the commonwealth. Overnight viewing figures indicated that the broadcast was seen by a record breaking 10.7 million people around the world. Many major TV channels carried the message. The Queen’s message, in 2021, had brought in an audience of 8.96 million viewers, in what is now her last Christmas address as she passed away, in September, paving the way for Charles to assume the role of monarch.

In 1932, King George V delivered the first Christmas message. Since then, the resident British monarch has been delivering a traditional festive address. It has become an important part of the holiday celebrations for many in Britain as well as in the commonwealth nations.

The British monarch generally reflects on current issues as well as concerns that affect the nation and the world. The resident monarch also talks about personal reflections and the significance of Christmas in their lives. It serves as a chronicle of personal and national events.

In his first Christmas address, King Charles spoke of inflation which the nation as well as the world is grappling with, especially during the colder months of the holiday season.

The King also appreciated the services of the public servants in all walks of British life including the armed services, emergency services, health services and more.

King Charles also expressed his gratitude to food banks and non governmental organizations that volunteered to help the poor and the needy. He also mentioned the religious organizations that were involved in this service including churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and gurudwaras. Fans are super excited.

King Charles spoke of the personal impact of the death of his beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth II as well about an earlier visit to Bethlehem. He shared those poignant personal moments.
