Time releases its Person of the Year after asking the public to vote on a list of figures who have been influential in the current year. Although the public weighs in, the final decision is made by the editors at Time. In 1952, the year she became the sovereign of the U.K., and other nations, Queen Elizabeth II also became Time’s Woman of the Year. Seventy years later, her son who is now King Charles III is on the long list but has tough competition with several other personalities, celebrities and groups.

In 2021, Elon Musk was chosen as Time’s Person of the Year, while 2020 saw a joint nomination of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. They were chosen before they were sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States. Former president Donald Trump was the nominee in 2016, while climate activist Greta Thunberg was chosen, in 2019 at the young age of 16.

The public can vote on a list of 60 influential figures for 2022 and the popularity in percentage, of some of them, as of now, is as follows, though it can change dramatically in the next few weeks:
King Charles–2
Rishi Sunak–3
Vladimir Putin–3
Donald Trump–3
Volodymyr Zelenskyy–24
Lizzo–5
Beyoncé–7
Taylor Swift–10
US House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 attack–7
Women protesters in Iran–86.

After the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran, after she was detained for allegedly breaking the strict dress code for women, several women have taken to the streets and protested against her death as well as the strict dress code. They have received support from many women as well as influential persons across he world. Some women have cut their hair in protest and the movement is going strong, as of now. It is currently considered as the most influential of 2022.
