Kentucky swimming coach Lars Jorgensen resigned on Wednesday following a reported suspension that stemmed from an NCAA investigation into compliance rules violations.
Jorgensen coached both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, and Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart said the Wildcats will begin a national search to fill Jorgensen’s post.
SwimSwam, a website that covers swimming and diving news, reported last week that Jorgensen had been away from the team since the start of May due to the NCAA’s investigation. The swim team’s entire coaching staff was also suspended for one week at the beginning of May, per the report.
Kentucky never officially confirmed that Jorgensen’s absence was because of a suspension, though.
Jorgensen, 52, had been coach of the Wildcats since the 2013-14 season after spending the 2012-13 campaign as an assistant.
