Kentucky G Jaxson Robinson (wrist) to miss rest of season

No. 17 Kentucky guard Jaxson Robinson will undergo surgery on his right wrist on Wednesday and miss the rest of the season, Wildcats coach Mark Pope said Saturday.

Robinson sat out Saturday’s 94-78 home loss to No. 1 Auburn, his fifth missed game in the last six. He played the first half of Wednesday’s 83-82 victory over Oklahoma but the wrist flared up and he sat out the second half.

“We kind of came to the final conclusion (Friday) night that he’s going to get surgery,” Pope said after the loss to Auburn. “So he’s going Wednesday to the world specialist to have surgery on his wrist.

“He’s got a torn sub-sheath to his ECU tendon. And so what’s happening is, it’s slipping out, and when he went down, we kind of knew that he was going to need surgery, but he just wanted so badly to play that he rehabbed it and had an injection to try and make it functional.”

Robinson initially injured the wrist during practice earlier this month when he collided with teammate Brandon Garrison.

Robinson ranks second on Kentucky in scoring at 13 points per game. He is also averaging 3.5 rebounds and has 62 3-pointers.

Robinson began his career with Texas A&M in the 2020-21 season before moving to Arkansas for the following season. He then transferred to Pope-coached BYU and spent two seasons in Provo before following Pope to Kentucky when the coach was hired to replace John Calipari.

Robinson has career averages of 9.6 points and 2.5 rebounds. He’s knocked down 226 treys in 120 games (68 starts).

No. 17 Kentucky is 19-10 overall and 8-8 in Southeastern Conference play after Saturday’s setback.
