Keir Starmer is the new Prime Minister of the UK after the Labour Party swept through the nationwide polls. He reached Buckingham Palace on Friday and met King Charles III. He sought the monarch’s blessings to form a government. Following this meeting, he reached his official residence—10 Downing Street, and addressed his supporters who had lined outside, waving tiny Union Jacks. He has also appointed a deputy Prime Minister and members of his cabinet.
Keir Starmer performed the official ceremony of “kissing of hands” on Friday. Buckingham Palace posted a photo of the same of Starmer with King Charles III. He reached 10 Downing Street where he addressed the gatherers and supporters. He thanked the former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and said that “the work of change begins immediately.”
The Labour Party won a landslide victory with 412 seats, coming to power after 14 years. The Conservatives won only 121 seats, while the Liberal Democrats won 71 seats. The Scottish National Party won nine seats.
Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform UK party, won his seat on his eighth election attempt. The hard-right party won four seats, and the left-wing Green Party also won four seats. Former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn won as an Independent.
