Decorated swimmer Katie Ledecky lost a race in the United States for the first time since 2014 when Canadian Summer McIntosh won the 200-meter freestyle at a meet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Swimming Friday night at the Pro Series event, McIntosh, 16, touched the wall in 1 minute, 54.13 seconds, 0.83 seconds ahead of Ledecky, who turns 26 this month. McIntosh set a world junior record in the process.
Ledecky last lost in a U.S. race of 200 meters or longer to former Olympic teammate Allison Schmitt in 2014.
Ledecky has won seven Olympic gold medals — six individual — and three silver. She is dominant at the longer distances and has won 14 individual long course world titles. According to Olympics.com, Ledecky holds the 800-meter and 1500-meter freestyle world records and 18 of the 20 fastest times in the 1500.
Ledecky made her first Olympics team in 2012. She has not disclosed her plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
