In a recent interview, celebrity rapper Kanye West claimed that the idea of Django Unchained was his. He said that his concept was stolen by celebrities Quentin Tarantino and Jamie Foxx. The 59-year old director responded in another interview that although Kanye had an idea for his music video, it was not the same as that of the 2012 film.
Early this week, in an interview with Piers Morgan, rapper Ye said that he had pitched an idea similar to the Oscar winning film’s concept to the director when they had met in 2005 to discuss the rapper’s music video Gold Digger.
On Thursday, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Tarantino said that there was “no truth to the idea” that Kanye West had come up with the concept of Django Unchained. He said that Kanye had not come up with the idea and he had not said “…wow, that a really great idea…” and he decided to make a movie from it. He told Kimmel, “OK that didn’t happen.”
The celebrity director did mention that Kanye had an idea for a video and he did think that video was Gold Digger and that the idea was that Kanye would be a slave and he would sing Gold Digger and he called it “a really, really funny idea.”
Celebrity host Jimmy Kimmel questioned Tarantino, “A funny slave video?”
Tarantino replied that it “was meant to be ironic,” He described it as a huge musical with no expenses spared and Kanye would be in a ”slave rag outfit, doing everything. And then that was also a part of the pushback on it.”
Kanye West’s music video did not portray such a story on Gold Digger. The story line of Django Unchained had celebrity Jamie Foxx playing the role of a freed slave teaming up with Christoph Waltz, who played the role of a bounty hunter; to free his wife from slavery. Kerry Washington played the role of his wife.
