In his final home game, Julian Reese collected 19 points and 11 rebounds to propel No. 13 Maryland to a 74-61 victory over Northwestern, Saturday in College Park, Md.

Ja’Kobi Gillespie scored 17 points and Derik Queen added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Terrapins (24-7, 14-6 Big Ten) won for the seventh time in their last eight games.

Rodney Rice and Selton Miguel, who also was honored on Senior Day, delivered 11 points apiece for Maryland, which avenged an earlier overtime defeat at Northwestern.

The Terrapins overwhelmed the Wildcats on the boards, 45-23, which helped them overcome 18 turnovers.

With the win, the Terrapins clinched a double-bye in next week’s Big Ten tournament. They will open Friday in the quarterfinal round.

Nick Martinelli produced 28 points and seven rebounds for Northwestern (16-15, 7-13), which plays Wednesday in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Ty Berry scored 10 points for the Wildcats, who hit 36.4 percent of their shots, including 4 of 19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Maryland answered with 42.3 percent shooting from the floor and 7-of-16 (43.8 percent) accuracy from deep.

Early in the game, Martinelli scored six of the points in an 11-2 run which gave Northwestern a 13-8 lead. A 3-pointer by Martinelli gave the Wildcats their biggest lead of the game, 19-12.

Gillespie and Reese combined for all the points as Maryland responded with an 8-0 run to take a 20-19 lead.

After failing to score in the first 15 minutes, Queen tallied eight points in the rest of the half to help the Terrapins to a 32-29 lead.

Northwestern took its lone lead of the second half when Berry made a free throw with 13 minutes left, which made it 42-41.

Maryland responded with the next seven points to take the lead for good. Jordan Geronimo powered for a putback to trigger the burst and Gillespie followed with a 3-pointer.

In the final 8 minutes, Gillespie hit a pair of triples and added four free throws as the Terrapins stretched their lead.
