On Friday, a judge who is presiding over lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s damages trial, penalized him as he had continued to disregard the court’s order. Giuliani missed deadlines for submitting materials related to the defamation case filed against him by two Georgia election workers. The judge wrote a five-page ruling outlining the lawyer’s defiance of the court order and said that jurors will be told how he tried to hide financial documents.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell said the move to tell jurors that Rudy Giuliani intentionally hid financial records and more despite a court order became necessary because “Giuliani’s continued and flagrant disregard of this Court’s August 30 Order that he produces financial-related documents concerning his personal and his businesses’ past and present assets” and other relevant information.
The judge also wrote that the jury would be instructed that Giuliani had been “intentionally trying to hide relevant discovery” about his businesses and assets so that there would be an artificial deflation in his net worth.
The judge also wrote that Giuliani and his lawyers would not be allowed to introduce any form of evidence that would state or suggest that Giuliani was “insolvent, bankrupt, judgement proof, or unable to defend himself” as he had not handed over such evidence or information “that would show that’s true.”
This is the second time that the judge has noted that Giuliani failed to comply with the court’s order as he had failed to comply with it and tried to bypass discovery obligations.
Former Trump lawyer and confidante Rudy Giuliani is facing several other legal as well as financial problems. Some of them include the following:
Rudy Giuliani faces criminal charges in the racketeering case in Fulton County, along with Trump and many other co-defendants.
Former lawyers are suing Giuliani as they said he owes them approximately $1.4 million. Giuliani says that these lawyers have quoted an excessive amount in unpaid fees.
Giuliani owes the tax man as he has unpaid taxes. The lawyer reportedly owes the IRS $550,000. Giuliani’s spokesperson has said that Giuliani had reached a “formal agreement with the IRS” and would pay his liability.
