In a recent development, the “Heart of Gold” singer has been followed by the “Big Yellow Taxi” singer. Neil Young has received support from Joni Mitchell who said she was also leaving Spotify. The streaming platform has faced controversy as it continues to exclusively stream the “Joe Rogen Experience” a podcast that peddles false information about many issues including vaccinations.
On Friday, in a post on her website, Joni Mitchell wrote that she had decided to remove all her music from Spotify. She added that “irresponsible people” were spreading lies that costed people their lives.
She also said that she stood in solidarity with Neil Young and with the medical and scientific communities across the world, on the issue of vaccines.
The “Heart of Gold” and “Harvest Moon” Canadian singer had over 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify while the “Big Yellow Taxi” Canadian singer has 3.7 million listeners on the streaming platform.

Young posted a new note on his website. He described Spotify as a service that “degraded and neutered sound” while Apple Music, Amazon and Qobuz delivered up to “100%of the music today.”
He also said that he supported “free speech” and had never been in favor of “censorship.” He also said that private companies had a right to choose what they profited from just as he could choose not to have his music support a platform that disseminated harmful information.
He also mentioned that he was “happy and proud to stand in solidarity with the front line workers who risk their lives everyday to help others.”
Louder reported that hashtags–Delete Spotify and Cancel Spotify were gaining support on Twitter. Investors have also began to question the fallout according to an article in Forbes. The financial website also noted that Spotify had lost close to 25 percent of its value since the beginning of 2022 and more than 45 percent in the last 12 months.
