John Travolta, an actor still remembered by a section of Americans and others all over the world of a certain age, as the original disco dancer has got yet another airplane license. The actor, who is now 68, started flying classes at 15 and is now licensed to fly a 737 plane. However, many of us will remember the iconic dancer “by the way” he uses his “walk,” and that he was a “New York man” after his one-of-a-kind performance in “Saturday Night Fever” rather than for his flying prowess.
Although we remember him more as the actor/dancer who made “disco dancing” and the Bee Gees more popular than ever before, his tryst with flying goes back much further when he was only 15-years old. At 22, he became a licensed pilot. On Sunday, at 68, he shared a post on Instagram, in a video. He stood next to one of his planes and said that it was a proud moment when he received his newest license.
Travolta’s journey flying planes with a license began over forty years ago. He has kept up with his teenage passion, despite his busy schedule in Hollywood as he has been a popular actor and starred in many famous movies including Grease, Pulp Fiction, Hairspray and more with popular costars.
The Saturday Night Fever star lives in Florida. He has a huge estate outside of Ocala. The estate has a private runway for his planes. He has a fleet of planes which include the following
Boeing 707
Boeing 727
Gulfstream jets
Bombardier Challenger 601
In 2007 John Travolta joined other aviation legends as he became a part of the Living Legends of Aviation. He also wrote a book about a young boy’s maiden flight called Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which was originally published in 1997.
John Travolta is also a honorary pilot for Qantas, a famous Australian airline company. He has individually flown 35,000 miles and with his new license, the number of miles is set to increase.
