President Joe Biden received a boost to campaign funds in 2023 as he and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) combined and raised nearly $100 million. This haul will help Biden in his reelection campaign. Despite unfavorable polling numbers, they raised more than $97 million in the last three months of the previous year. Most of the funds have come from the grassroots.
On Monday, the Biden campaign said they had taken in $235 million from when they launched it in April to the end of last year. The announcement also said they have $117 million in cash. When Barack Obama ran for reelection in 2011, he and the DNC had raised $68 million in the fourth quarter. Biden has raised the most money among all Democrats, helped by Obama and other senior Democrats.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager for Biden, described the amount raised as an “historic haul.” The statement also said that the numbers proved that Americans knew how high the stakes were and that they were taking “action early to help defeat the extreme MAGA Republican agenda again.”
The campaign also reported that more than 520,000 contributors donated funds to Biden and the DNC; 97 percent of the contributions were below $200, and the average donation was $41.88. The team said that there had been 39 fundraisers in the quarter. It also mentioned that 130,000 made contributions automatically every month. There was also a competition to meet President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and this campaign raised over $3 million.
The Biden campaign has released the amounts raised, but Donald Trump has not yet released the amount his campaign and the RNC raised and has time till the end of the month. Campaign fundraising reports are due on or before January 31, 2024.
