Utah Jazz star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. will undergo surgery on his left knee, the team announced Thursday — nine days after acquiring him in an eight-player trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Jazz said the procedure over the All-Star break will remove a localized pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) growth. They did not announce a timetable for his recovery, however NBA on Prime and NBA.TV reported it likely will sideline Jackson for the season.

Per the report, the PVNS growth was discovered in a physical exam via an MRI after the Feb. 3 trade.

Jackson, 26, scored 23 points in 22 minutes during Wednesday’s 121-93 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

A two-time All-Star, Jackson is averaging 22.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in three games (all starts) with the Jazz after contributing 19.2 points and 5.8 boards in 45 games with the Grizzlies.

Drafted by Memphis with the fourth overall pick in 2018, Jackson has career averages of 18.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 455 games (446 starts). He was an All-Star in 2022-23 and 2024-25.

Jackson was the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23 and is a three-time All-Defensive team selection and two-time league leader in blocked shots. He has three seasons left on a five-year, $205 million contract that also includes a player option for the 2029-30 season.
