On Saturday, 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter fatally shot three black men at a general store in Jacksonville, Florida. On Sunday, the police authorities released the names of the victims who lost their lives in what was termed as a racially motivated attack. One of the victims was planning to spend Saturday with his young daughter. Unfortunately, he was gunned down and became another victim of racism.
The three people who lost their lives in the senseless attack were later identified as 29-year-old Jerrald Gallion, 52-year-old Angela Michelle Carr and 19-year-old Anolt Joseph “AJ” Laguerre, Jr., who was an employee at the Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, where the shooting took place.
Gallion entered the front door of the store with his girlfriend and was fatally shot. He was planning to meet his daughter on Saturday. The child’s maternal grandmother had a good opinion about him and said that although his relationship with the child’s mother had not lasted, both worked together to raise their four-year-old daughter Je Asia.
Gallion’s sister Latiffany Gallion also said on Sunday, “My brother shouldn’t have lost his life. She added, “A simple day of going to the store, and he’s taken away from us forever.”
His family members also spoke about his sense of humor as well as his work ethic. He was a restaurant manager and was providing for his daughter.
During a prayer vigil for Gallion, Bishop John Guns of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, which the young victim attended said, “In two weeks I have to preach a funeral of a man who should still be alive.”
He added, “He was not a thug—he was a father who gave his life to Jesus and was trying to get it together.”
The gunman 21-year Ryan Palmeter had legally bought the guns he used to fatally shoot the three victims. He bought the guns although there was a past involuntary commitment for a mental health exam. Authorities noted that his diary with filled white supremacist ramblings appeared to be similar to “the diary of a madman.”
