“Spider-Man: No Way Home” has lost its top spot to “Jackass Forever.” The Paramount film is now in the No. 1 box office spot as it earned $9.6 million on the opening day at 3,604 locations, according to a report in The Wrap. Spider-Man was leading for almost four weeks but the MTV revival of the Jackass franchise is expected to earn more than $20 million during its opening weekend.
The first film in the Jackass franchise opened at $22.7 million in 2002. The latest one is below that mark but is set to turn a profit as its entire budget was $10 million. It also got a higher review on Rotten Tomatoes. It received 87 percent on the critics score. CinemaScore audiences also gave it a B+.
“Jackass Forever” is laughing its way to the bank as the movie has seen a strong turnout from young males. However, it didn’t do as well as Jackass 3D which debuted to $50 million in pre pandemic times. The latest movie reunites many original crew members and there are several cameos.
“Jackass Forever” is R rated for its crude comedy as well as its dangerous stunts. It also has graphic nudity and language.
The second in line “Moonfall” has sharply crash landed at $9.1 million. It also received a lower score of C+ on CinemaScore. The latest Emmerich directed title got 42 percent at Rotten Tomatoes. It has been distributed by Lionsgate as an independent movie.
“Moonfall” is a big budget movie. It cost $138 million to produce. It has a star studded cast but has been relegated behind Jackass Forever in revenue and in its score.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” from Sony is settling for the third position with $8.8 million in its eight week. The total revenues by Sunday are expected to be $748.1 million.
