Former president Donald Trump had been hinting about a big announcement before the midterms. He is expected to announce a 2024 presidential bid, next Tuesday. However, in the meanwhile, Trump endorsed candidates have lost or are trailing in the midterms. Two rising GOP stars Glenn Youngkin and Ron DeSantis have faired very well in the midterms winning the gubernatorial elections in Virginia and Florida. Both of them have faced Trump’s ire and scorn these past days.
On Friday, Donald Trump attacked Virginia’s Republican governor Glenn Youngkin, although he had endorsed him earlier. On his Truth Social account Trump spoke of his endorsement of the young Republican and said that he “did a very big Trump Rally for him, telephonically.” He also said that the MAGA vote went to Youngkin because of Trump. Otherwise he would not have won.
Trump also made an inexplicable comment, something that is reminiscent of covefefe, when he said, “Young Kin (now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it) in Virginia couldn’t have won without me.”
Earlier Youngkin’s Lt. Governor of Virginia said that she “couldn’t” support Trump, if he stood for the presidential elections, in 2024. Republican Winsome Sears also said that voters were saying “enough is enough” and mentioned that a true leader knew when “to step off the stage” and that there had been a clear message from the voters.
Although Governor Youngkin didn’t say anything against former president Trump, his Lt. Governor’s remarks were construed to be similar to his.
Earlier Donald Trump had also lashed out at Governor Ron DeSantis who not only took a comfortable lead and won but also turned Florida red as the Republicans fared very well in the Sunshine State. Trump had called him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” Earlier, Donald Trump has also spoken of revealing unflattering things about his former protégé, if DeSantis stood against him in the 2024 presidential elections.
