Renowned specialist Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo has been named the new Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to succeed Dr. Anthony Fauci is a key leadership change within the field of infectious diseases. In addition to his important leadership during multiple public health emergencies, Dr. Fauci’s tenure at the NIH has been distinguished by his unrelenting dedication to research and public health. The scientific community and the country are now anxiously anticipating Dr. Marrazzo’s leadership and contributions to the fight against infectious illnesses as Dr. Fauci stands aside from his position.

Marrazzo is board-certified in infectious diseases and a fellow of IDSA and the American College of Physicians. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on epidemiology from the University of Washington. Marrazzo has also served as the chair of the ABIM Infectious Disease Specialty Board and the ABIM Council.
