Orlando flight passengers, crew at high risk as man aboard succumbs to coronavirus
On Monday, United Airlines faced accusations from angry commuters traveling to Los Angeles from Orlando. They condemned the carrier company for allowing a man aboard, who allegedly showed positive symptoms of COVID-19 and who died before the flight reached its destination.
As soon as the Boeing 737-900 was airborne, the man’s wife observed that he was having breathing difficulties. The medical team on the flight attempted to help him with first aid and then tried to revive him through CPR. The flight made an emergency landing at New Orleans, dropped him off and continued to LA. He was declared dead at New Orleans.
The patient’s wife was heard telling the medics that he had been showing signs of COVID-19 for a week.
One passenger said, ‘He was shaking and sweating boarding the plane. He was clearly sick and then died midflight. We had an emergency landing in New Orleans, and we didn’t even switch planes afterwards.
“We all sat there for hours waiting while you guys cleaned up his blood and germs with wet wipes. Is this how you guys handle other people’s safety and health?”
Another irate passenger tweeted, “United, why did you never check our temperatures before boarding?”
“An entire plane had to watch him seize or have a heart attack.”
Charles Hobart, a spokesperson, said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has requested the airlines for the flight’s passenger list to inform others traveling that they could have been exposed to COVID-19.
