INDY News: IndyCar 2024 finale moved from Nashville streets to oval

There will be a new look for the 2024 IndyCar Series season finale, with the circuit moving its last race of the season off the streets of Nashville and into the Nashville Superspeedway.

The 17-race series will begin with a street race at St. Petersburg, Fla., on March 10, with the Indianapolis 500 on May 26 as the fifth race of the season. The Music City Grand Prix at Nashville is set for Sept. 15.

It will be the first time the IndyCar season finale has been contested on an oval since 2014.

The IndyCar street race at Nashville started in 2021 and was moved to the nearby speedway because of concerns over nearby construction for the new Tennessee Titans’ football stadium, according to the Indianapolis Star.

The area of the stadium had been used by the race in recent years as the center of operations.

When announced for 2024, the Nashville street course was supposed to be a reconfigured 2.17-mile circuit with seven turns.

The 1.33-mile D-shaped track at Nashville Superspeedway has been an open-wheel venue in the past, when it was used by the Indy Racing League and later IndyCar for eight years from 2001-08.

NASCAR returned to the venue in 2021 and will contest all three of its series at Nashville from June 28-30.
