Jaemyn Brakefield had 23 points and 10 rebounds and hot-shooting Ole Miss won its first game under acting head coach Win Case, defeating LSU 82-69 on Saturday night in Oxford, Miss.

Case, who was elevated from assistant coach when Kermit Davis was fired Friday, guided the Rebels (11-18, 3-13, SEC) to just their third victory in the last 18 games.

Amaree Abram added 14 points, Myles Burns scored 12 and Matthew Murrell had 11. Ole Miss shot 55.2 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent on 3-pointers while compiling its highest point total in an SEC game this season.

KJ Williams scored 29 points and Adam Miller added 15 to lead the Tigers (13-16, 2-14), who lost their first game after ending a 14-game losing streak.

LSU scored the first five points of the second half to get within four, but Ole Miss responded with two layups and three dunks to open a 45-36 lead.

Williams scored six straight Tigers points to get them within five, but Abram made two 3-pointers and Murrell made one as the Rebels opened a 62-50 lead with 8:33 left.

LSU trimmed the lead to seven points three times, the third time on a three-point play by Tyrell Ward with 3:25 left. But Ole Miss regained control by scoring the next four points.

Williams scored the Tigers’ first four points, and they jumped to an 8-2 lead before Brakefield scored the next six points to tie the score.

A basket by Williams started a 7-0 run by LSU, but Ole Miss followed that with a 7-0 run of its own to produce a 15-all tie.

Derek Fountain’s layup broke the tie in the Tigers’ favor, before the Rebels scored the next four points to take their first lead, 19-17.

Williams made two free throws to pull LSU within 22-21, but Abram made two 3-pointers during a 10-0 run by Ole Miss.

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Williams trimmed the Rebels’ lead to 35-26 at halftime.
