The Indiana Fever can no longer be taken lightly.

The Fever snapped their 20-game losing streak by defeating Atlanta on May 28 and have since dropped two competitive contests, a three-point road loss to the Connecticut Sun and a four-point defeat to defending champion Las Vegas Aces.

Indiana (1-4) will make its third attempt for a second victory when it visits the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.

The Fever led the Aces by 10 points early in the fourth quarter and were still up by five with less than three minutes remaining but couldn’t hold off Las Vegas’ late charge.

“It just hurts when you lose a game like that,” Indiana head coach Christie Sides said. “We could have gone home with that one.”

Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 22 points and Erica Wheeler had a season-high 15.

“I thought this was the first time we all felt connected,” Wheeler said. “We saw how good we can be. We competed with this team and had them on their heels.”

Fever top draft pick Aliyah Boston got into foul trouble and was held to seven points after averaging 15.8 points in her first four games.

“The great thing is we have a game Tuesday,” Wheeler said. “We have to let this one go.”

Chicago (4-3) rallied from 19 points down in the second half to defeat New York 86-82 on Sunday. The Sky avenged a one-point loss to the Liberty two nights earlier.

Kahleah Copper led the surge with 27 points and Courtney Williams scored 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter.

“We showed the heart and character that we have,” Sky coach James Wade said. “We’re a very confident group. … We’re going to fight you for 40 minutes.”

Copper, who averages a team-high 17.1 points, also had seven rebounds and three assists, following up a 20-point, nine-rebound effort on Friday.

The Sky had a 2-1 record against the Fever last season.
