Bryan Kohberger, the 28-year-old Ph.D. student who was arrested early Friday morning in connection with the death of four students in Moscow, has the support of his family.
It has been revealed that the father of the accused in the quadruple killings joined his son on a 2,500-mile cross-country road trip from Washington state to Pennsylvania in the Hyundai Elantra that has become the center point of the murder mystery probe. The offender drove from Pullman to Pennsylvania to spend the holidays with his family last month. Following the murders, he stayed in Pullman, Washington, and continued his studies for several weeks before embarking on the long drive to Pennsylvania in December.
Police raided the family home in Chestnut hill Township, Monroe County, on Friday and arrested him on charges of the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin on November 13 in Moscow.
Bryan Kohberger’s father had reportedly traveled to Washington state to meet his son before Christmas. This was weeks after the quadruple homicide. They made the cross-country drive home together, according to CNN‘s Jason LaBar.
The father and son rode in the suspect’s white Hyundai Elantra, which has been central to the murder investigation for several weeks. LaBar reportedly told KTVB that they were pulled over twice by police as they drove through Indiana. Investigators began following Kohberger’s movements across the United States sometime during the journey east. Two witnesses also saw the two men on the 16th of December at an auto repair shop in Pennsylvania, where they stopped to have the Hyundai Elantra serviced.
According to LaBar, the father and son arrived at their family home in the Pocono Mountains around the 17th of December. The white Elantra was seized from his parents’ home at the time of his arrest.
Kohberger’s parents broke their silence on Sunday, saying that they “care deeply” for the victims and their families and prayed for them every day. However, they will extend support to their son as the legal process proceeds. They said that they have so far “fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies” and have supported the search for truth. They would refrain from judging unknown facts and making erroneous assumptions.
The motive for the murders is unknown, and the murder weapon, a fixed-blade knife, has yet to be found. The details of what led them to the suspect have been kept under wraps by Moscow Police, and the criminal complaint will remain sealed until Kohberger, who is currently imprisoned in Pennsylvania, is extradited back to Idaho.
Kohberger’s family has requested privacy during this time as they work with law enforcement to solve the case.
