New allegations about the night of Bryan Kohberger’s detention are being made more than two months after he was detained and charged with the murders of four University of Idaho students.

Authorities declared that the 28-year-old had been detained in connection with the stabbing deaths of Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison “Maddie” Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves, who were all found dead in Moscow, Idaho. He is accused of one case of felony burglary and four counts of first-degree murder.

Kohberger was a Ph.D. candidate at Washington State University at the time of the killings. Pullman, Washington, is only a 15-minute journey away from the Moscow home where the killings took place. He was detained while spending the holidays at his parents’ house in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, more than 2,500 miles from the crime site.

First Assistant District Attorney in Monroe County, Michael Mancuso, claimed in a conversation that when law enforcement officers went to Kohberger’s parents’ house around 1:30 a.m. to make an arrest, they discovered him in the kitchen packing trash into Ziploc bags wearing latex gloves.

Once authorities saw the suspect doing this, it shed light on a possible explanation as to why Kohberger’s DNA was not found in the family’s trash when investigations were carried out. Kohberger was taken into custody in Pennsylvania and later returned to Idaho to face the accusations against him.

 According to a search warrant that was recently made public, after Kohberger’s arrest, police allegedly took several items from the Kohberger family home, including two knives, black face masks, black gloves, a Glock handgun with three empty magazines, one black hat, a “book with underlining on page 118,” a “green leafy substance in plastic bag,” and Kohberger’s AT&T bill. Authorities also confiscated Kohberger’s clothing, shoes, a flashlight, four medical-style gloves, and a cheek swab, according to a separate search warrant that was recently made public.

On June 26, the former Ph.D. student in criminology and criminal justice will return to court for a five-day preliminary trial. He is presently detained without bond and has not yet taken a position on the accusations leveled against him.
