An Idaho couple, who were convicted in what was referred to as the Doomsday Killings, have been sentenced. On Saturday, Chad Daybell was sentenced to death by an Idaho judge after he was found guilty of killing his first wife and two young children of his second wife, Lori Vallow Daybell. His wife was sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison without parole earlier in July.
On Thursday, Chad Daybell was found guilty of first-degree murder as well as conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the slayings of Tammy Daybell (his first wife) and Joshua JJ Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, the youngest children of his second wife. He was also found guilty of two counts of insurance fraud.
There was a month-long trial in Boise, Idaho. The prosecutors described Daybell as a person who was filled with apocalyptic thoughts and who said that some people were “zombies” while others were considered to be “dark spirits.”
Officials found human remains on Daybell’s property in Fremont County while investigating the disappearance of Vallow’s two youngest children. Police said that Daybell could have hidden the remains of the children between September 2019 and June 2020.
The police also investigated the death of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, after they found the remains of the two children, who had been reported missing. Tammy died in 2019, and her death was considered to be a natural one then.
Daybell married Vallow a few weeks later. When the investigation into the deaths of the children pointed at Daybell and Vallow, the police exhumed Tammy’s remains. They found that she had been asphyxiated after an autopsy was conducted on the remains.
Earlier in 2023, Lori Vallow Daybell was found guilty of murdering her children, Joshua JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan. She was also found guilty of conspiracy to murder in the death of Tammy Daybell.
Both Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell were believers in Doomsday prophecies.
