Roger Federer surprises Melbourne-based nurse with Zoom call.
Who doesn’t love surprises, especially when they’re from widely recognized and renowned celebrities! Being acknowledged from them means the world to their fans and makes them feel seen and that their efforts are being appreciated.
A similar incident happened to Helen Richards, a Melbourne-based critical care nurse who had been struggling with the novel coronavirus outbreak at Monash Health Hospital. Helen had been preparing for a professional teleconference when the world’s number four appeared on her laptop screen.
One can only imagine the shocking reaction that Helen must have had to see the legendary Roger Federer on her computer screen. Federer applauded her efforts and invaluable service in the fight against covid19. The call was organized by the United States Tennis Association and ESPN, which made Helen’s day and may have given her immunity the much-needed boost to ward off the infection much quicker.
The 20-minute conversation revolved around the ongoing pandemic in Melbourne and how Richards was doing her part for the community. She was concerned about the many outbreaks in the nursing homes around Melbourne and how everyone was offering their support so that the community came out triumphant at the other side.
She gushed that Federer made her year and we believe her! Federer asked Richards if she played tennis to which she said yes but very badly and the ever-hum Federer retaliated by saying that he wasn’t that good of a nurse himself. Aww…
Richards was thrilled with the opportunity to speak to someone like Roger Federer and how his acknowledgement seemed like the perfect gift by karma for all her efforts in these challenging times. She relished having talked to him and claimed that the experience was totally humbling as getting praised from someone the likes of him is no small wonder.
Federer, the 20-time grand slam champion, did not compete in the 2020 US Open due to an injury but is aiming to participate for Australian Open next year. Richards said that she’d be more than happy to put on a barbeque for him whenever he’s in Melbourne and have dinner at her place. Won’t that be a tale to tell the grandkids.
Such sweet gestures from international celebrities make the public love them even more and of course, not to mention the endless brownie points. There’s hope yet in this world, and with people like Federer as front runners, we believe we still have a chance.
Roger Federer’s net worth in 2020 (estimate): $450 million.
