Facebook founder and Meta CEO recently spoke with podcaster Tim Ferris. He told the 4-Hour Work Week author that he had trained himself in such a manner that he could deal with discomfort. Considering his job responsibilities and the criticism he faces day in and day out, as people or officials call out the social media platforms that are under Meta Inc., including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, he needs this training.
Zuckerberg mentioned that he had formulated a set of methods that would manage his energy as well prevent him from getting distracted as he continues with his daily routine.
The tech CEO and philanthropist noted that it would be similar to “getting punched” if he went straight into the day, each morning after he woke up and read his emails and got the news. He said that a basic combination of physical activity and meditative activity would take his “mind off it for an hour.”
He added that these physical exertions and mental calmness allowed him to rest and then tackle the work that was really important. He said that this was the reason why foiling and surfing remained important activities in his life. He said that when a person is in the water, it was difficult “to focus on anything else.”
He also described the activities as something that subconsciously helped him settle of the things, all of the news that took place all over the world and he felt that it was “OK” and that he could “go deal with it.”
He clarified that his first impulse during a genuine emergency was not to suit up and grab his surfboard. However, he believed his productivity was more when he exerted himself, physically.
Mark Zuckerberg, along with wife Priscilla Chan, set up the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative. This foundation leverages technology to solve some of the toughest problems that are facing the world including the use of science and technology that will either cure or prevent the occurrence of all diseases. It also aims to manage all diseases by the end of the 21st century.
