On Thursday afternoon, former president Donald Trump’s first wife Ivana Trump died at her Manhattan apartment. The 73-year old entrepreneur helped him build his empire and was also the mother of three of his children: Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump. Although no official cause of death has been given, sources say that she might have died due to cardiac arrest, as she was found at the bottom of a staircase in her apartment. Her family posted messages detailing their heartbreak as well as praising her.
On Thursday, police had responded to a call that mentioned a person was in cardiac arrest at a New York City apartment. Police sources said that they reached 10 East 64th street on the Upper East Side Manhattan at 12.40 p.m. They found Ivana Trump at the bottom of stairs. She was unconscious and unresponsive.
Police also said that investigations were ongoing to determine whether she fell. They are also probing if the fall resulted in her death. The investigation into the cause and manner of Ivana’s death will be conducted by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.
Ivana had reportedly visited her favorite Italian restaurant Altesi in New York City. Owner Paola Alavian said that Ivana had ordered some food hours before she was found dead. Ms. Alavian also said that the former model acted normally though she did look a little tired, according to reports.
Ivana married Donald Trump in 1977. She was the vice president for interior design at the Trump Organization. She also managed one of their top properties–The Plaza Hotel. She had a tumultuous marriage with him and they spilt in 1992.
The immigrant from Czechoslovakia, who was a professional skier, became the heroine for wives who were spurned by their husbands. She appeared in a cameo role in the 1996 film “The First Wives Club.” In the movie she told the characters, “Don’t get mad, get everything.” On another occasion, after her ex husband became the president, she had also said that she was the “first lady” as she was Trump’s first wife.
After the divorce, Ivana continued to be successful as she developed clothing, jewelry and beauty products under her brand. She also wrote several books and an advice column. Her final book was called “Raising Trump.”
