As the recall election date for California’s Governor Gavin Newsom looms in less than six weeks and his recent poll ratings fall, a host of Hollywood celebrities and other prominent figures from Hollywood are planning a fund raiser next week. Deadline was the first to exclusively report that some of the major persons who will chair the event in support of the California governor include Jeffrey Katzenberg, Casey Wasserman, and Andrew Hauptman.
The virtual event, which Governor Newson is planning to attend, is scheduled for August 12, will also be chaired by
- Van Fletcher and Skip Paul
- Stephanie and Mark Robinson
- Eric Schmidt.
The August 12 event will turn over all the proceeds to the Stop the Republican Recall of Governor Newsom committee as there is no limit to the amount this committee can raise. It has already raised $3 million from Reed Hastings of Netflix.
According to an invite received by Deadline, the tickets are reported to have the following rates for the following designations:
- Chair – $100,000
- Co-host – $50,000
- Supporter – $25,000
- Friend – $10,000.
Most of Hollywood is in favor of Gov. Newsom continuing to serve. They have called out the recall as a Republican effort and described it as “nonsense” a “sham” and “an effort to delegitimize” the American elections process. Some of the others who have recently contributed to the committee also include
- the Motion Picture Association
- Paramount Pictures
- Lionsgate’s Jon Feltheimer
- Byron Allen.
The California Democratic Party and the SEIU Local 2015 have also contributed funds to the Stop The Republican Recall of Governor Newsom Committee.
Governor Gavin Newsom has been popular though his ratings have fallen recently. California is a blue state and votes Democrat. However, there is mild apathy among Democratic voters which needs to be urgently addressed.
The Republicans in fray are far too many in number. So far, more than 40 candidates have qualified. Conservative radio host Larry Elder has been gaining in popularity. The Republicans are enthused by the recall vote and will vote in full strength. It is left to the Democrats to vote in full strength as well to defeat the recall vote.
Although the recall hasn’t yet happened some contributions for Gavin Newsom’s 2022 reelection campaign have also been made. They include
- Endeavor’s Ari Emanuel – $10,000
- Kevin Huvane – $25,000
