Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage at the highly anticipated WWDC 2023 event, where he unveiled Apple’s virtual reality headset and a range of developer and tech features that have become synonymous with past conferences.
Cook unveiled the highly anticipated Vision Pro virtual reality headset, priced at $3,499 and available in early 2024. The headset features exterior cameras for mixed reality interaction and 2-hour battery life. It offers a Home view with floating icons for popular apps and requires no additional controllers. Powered by Apple’s M2 chipset and R1 chip for real-time sensor processing, it uses machine learning to create lifelike representations during video calls. With control via gestures, eye movements, and voice commands, the Vision Pro boasts a 23-million-pixel panel and EyeSight technology for onlookers. It uses Optic ID—an iris-scanning system—to authenticate the user.
The 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio all powered by the M2 processor, were introduced by the Cupertino-based tech behemoth. A number of intriguing features were added to Apple’s newest iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and watchOS 10 releases.

The powerful Mac Pro is Apple’s latest addition to their professional-grade Mac lineup. The Mac Pro is equipped with the impressive M2 Ultra 24-core CPU, supporting a remarkable 76-core GPU, eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, and compatibility with up to six Pro Display XDR monitors. This high-end desktop computer is specifically designed for creative professionals and designers. The new Mac Pro model starts at a price of Rs 729,900. In addition, Apple has also unveiled the updated Mac Studio, which can be configured with either the M2 Max or M2 Ultra chips, starting at Rs 209,900.
The upcoming iOS update brings a host of new features. “NameDrop” allows sharing contacts, music, and more between two iPhones or Apple Watches. FaceTime gains voicemail functionality for leaving video messages, while messaging gets enhanced search and catch-up features for group chats. A new experience called “Standby” changes the lockscreen UI when the iPhone is placed sideways on a stand.
The latest tablet software update, iPadOS 17, introduces familiar features from iOS 17, such as improved Messages, AirDrop, and smarter autocorrect. Additionally, it offers lock screen customization, the Health app, Live Activities, enhanced Notes, and PDF annotation capabilities.
macOS Sonoma, the newest iteration of Apple’s Mac operating system, includes desktop widgets, Apple TV-inspired aerial screensavers, improved apps like Messages and Safari, a Game mode for optimized gaming performance, expanded video-conferencing capabilities in FaceTime, and under-the-hood improvements and enhanced privacy features in Safari.
The Apple Watch, watchOS 10, includes new widgets, expanded app functionality, and improvements in health monitoring capabilities, including new mood-logging features to the Mindfulness app. Apple TV will soon support FaceTime, enabling users to utilize their iPad or iPhone camera and view conversations on a larger screen.
