Despite a stellar cast, a renowned director and excellent cityscapes of New York City, The Undoing hasn’t had a positive impact on reviewers who have seen 5 episodes of this miniseries from HBO.
The series is based on the 2014 novel “You Should Have Known” written by Jean Hanff Korelitz. David E Kelley is the creator and writer and Susanne Brier is the director. The cast is spectacular and includes Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, Noah Jupe, Matilda De Anglis, Donald Sutherland, Edgar Ramirez and Lily Rabe.
Kidman essays the role of Grace Fraser, a rich Manhattan therapist who is married to Hugh Grant, a pediatric oncologist. They live a seemingly perfect life with their preteen son Noah Jupe. The story evolves into a whodunnit when Elena Alves, from Spanish Harlem, is murdered and most of the suspicion falls on Hugh Grant. He is the prime suspect as he was having an affair with her and is missing. The show revolves around Kidman while Donald Sutherland shines as her father, Lila Rabe supports her as her friend and Edgar Ramirez plays the role of the detective.
Despite excellent performances from the entire cast, there isn’t enough depth and the flaws are too many to make it as good as early miniseries including Big Little Lies.
