In a tragic incident that occurred in Indiana, a father died and his two children are gravely injured as a hand grenade exploded. The family found the grenade while going through their grandfather’s possessions at their home in Lakes of the Four Seasons, Indiana, according to the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department confirmed that the father, Bryan Niedert, 46, was later pronounced dead at his residence on West Lakeshore Drive. The two children, a 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman, were transported to a hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds. The cause and manner of the father’s death will be determined following an autopsy scheduled for Monday, as announced by the coroner’s office.
