The Super Bowl LVI half time show was like never before. A galaxy of rappers including Dr. Dre, Mary J. Bilge, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent”performed at America’s biggest musical show. Older millennials enjoyed the show as the songs played were from the 2000s. The hiphop theme was a salute to its origins as the Super Bowl kicked off at the SoFi stadium, in Ingelwood California. The six musicians performed in or on the roof of a white structure that looked like a club.

Although the cumulative age of the rappers was 286 and their cumulative wealth is close to a billion dollars, the amount of joy and nostalgia they provided is priceless. Many kids were surprised to see their parents mouthing the tracks’ lyrics along with the rappers.

Three of the rappers Dr. Dre, 56, Snoop Dogg, 50 and Kendrick Lamar, 34 are Los Angelinos. They were joined by Mary J.Bilge, 51, Eminem, 49, and 50 Cent, 46. Dr. Dre has been a mentor to or collaborator with the five other rappers.

Ahead of the show Dr.Dre said that it was “crazy” that it took so much time for them to be recognized and he thought that they would do a “fantastic job.” He added that they were “going to do it so big” that they could no longer be denied in the future. His words came true as the show did very well and was called the “best ever” by some on social media.

The lineup of rappers played nine iconic songs that included Dr Dre opening with the classic The Next Episode with Snoop Dogg followed by 50 Cent’s In Da Club. Mary J. Bilge continued rapping with Family Affair and No More Drama followed by Kendrick Lamar’s Alright. Eminem concluded with Lose Yourself. He reportedly took a knee. The show had a stunning finale with the ever popular Still Dre.

There was a subtle nod to Tupac Shakur as Dr. Dre briefly played “I Ain’t Mad at Cha’ on piano. The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.
